World Health Day 2016 will be held on April 7th and will be dedicated to diabetes.

Worldwide diabetes has become an epidemic, and North America has the largest population of this disease. The World Health Organization has made diabetes a number one priority and will focus on education and awareness to stop this epidemic.

“By 2040 more than 640 million of us may be living with diabetes.” 

  • A healthy lifestyle could prevent up to 70% of type 2 diabetes.
  • Delayed diagnosis means that many people with type 2 diabetes suffer from at least one complication by the time they are diagnosed with diabetes.
  • Eating to maintain blood sugar with a healthy diet of leafy greens, fresh vegetables, lean protein and whole grains can reduce the onset of diabetes.
  • “Encouraging healthy eating habits in young children is key to halting the rise of the diabetes epidemic. By ensuring the health of future generations, we take a step toward ensuring sustainable development.”
